Salt Damage
Salt can be deadly to your turf. Salt that touches the grass blades can cause brown burns that reduce their ability to gain nutrients from the sun. Salt pulls water out of the plant which results in plant death. Areas that die need to be sodded.
The problem
Salt can stay in the soil for years and keep many plants, including grass, from growing until enough is washed away.
Keeping your turf healthy can help it survive a small influx of salt, but it might not survive if large amounts are dumped on it, such as in the case of strong coastal ocean breezes.

Combating salt damage
Water can be your best friend when fighting salt damage on your turf, especially if your course is near the coast. Because salt stays in the soil, grass won't be successful unless you take steps to fix the soil. Soaking it for several hours, as soon as you suspect salt damage and continued watering every day for the next three to four days leaches the salt out of the soil, washing it down and away where it can no longer affect your turf.
How Player Proximity Systems can help
Your sprinkler system can be configured to automatically turn on in areas where you need it when specific wind conditions exist. So if the sea breeze gets up you can run sprinklers onto your turf to immediately dilute and flush the salt away before it has time settle on the leaf. Where players are active on the course the system will automatically pause when they are near and resume as they exit the area.
